How to configure a POP3 e-mail account with Microsoft Outlook Express:

1. Launch Outlook Express without connecting to the Internet. On launch you may see an error screen which you can ignore/close; this is because no mail accounts are currently configured.  Go to the tools menu and select accounts – as shown below:

2. A screen will now load displaying any existing accounts. Ensure the mail tab is selected and click add, from the add menu select mail:

3. Please select the name you would like shown on messages you send, then follow the the wizard step-by-step, as highlighted below: (We have used the Scothosts domain as an example, if you have your own domain then replace all Scothosts settings as your own)

4. The SMTP (outgoing) server should be set as specified by the dial-up account you are using.  For example: BT Internet is smtp.btinternet.com - If you have your own domain name the setting will be smtp.scothosts.comm <replacing scothosts.com with your own domain>

5. The full e-mail address should be used as the username, the password is set by the client via a virtual control panel, or by Scothosts for customers who do not have control panels:

6. You will now be forwarded to the finish screen, once clicking “finish” you will revert back to account list, where you should now see the new account.  Go back to the main Outlook Express screen and press send / receive and the modem should dial and check for new mail.
